Black women have a unique set of challenges that they must overcome. One of those obstacles is in the battle against diabetes. Empowher.com lays out the data on black women and also discusses a recent increase in the risk of diabetes among black women both young and old.
In fact, the site says that over 1/4 of all black women over the age of 55 carry Type 2 Diabetes. Maybe this means that all of us need to change our eating habits.
According to the site:
Blackwomenshealth.org cautions that almost half of all African-American females who were born during or since the year 2000 are at serious risk for type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition involving unhealthy blood sugar levels which can cause damage to the eyes, feet, heart, kidneys, mouth, nerves and skin. In severe cases the long-term consequences of these high blood sugar levels can be fatal.SOURCE
