Leila Lopes of Angola has been crowned Miss Universe 2011. Lopes is hopeful that her win will help her to represent her home country of Angola in its quest to counter the country's history of war and poverty. She also wants to fight HIV around the world.
The 25-year old is not bashful about her previous accomplishments, "as Miss Angola I've already done a lot to help my people," she said.
"I've worked with various social causes. I work with poor kids, I work in the fight against HIV. I work to protect the elderly and I have to do everything that my country needs," she said. "I think now as Miss Universe I will be able to do much more."
Lopes says she's never had plastic surgery and that her beauty tips are to get plenty of sleep, use sun block and drink lots of water. She didn't worry about racism in the competition, stating that "any racist needs to seek help. It's not normal in the 21st century to think in that way."
Lopes is the first woman from Angola to ever win the Miss Universe pageant. There were 88 women from around the world competing, all of whom had been crowned champions in their home countries.
One of her questions during the final interview was what physical trait she would change if she could.
"Thank God I'm very satisfied with the way God created me and I wouldn't change a thing," Lopes said. "I consider myself a woman endowed with inner beauty. I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family and I intend to follow these for the rest of my life."
Lopes was able to win over the home crowd during the competition. Her personality and inner beauty showed themselves as the crowd fell in love with her.
"She captivated the crowd and we were all behind her," said Brazilian Natalie Bursztyn, who was in the audience. "It was great that the judges also saw what the fans saw and gave her the crown. Her dress was beautiful and she knew exactly what to say when they asked her the question about her looks."

I did not watch the Miss Universe Pageant last night, nor have I watched in several years. But to see that beauty is a state of mind, it can be found Global, this young woman obviously care for others, and this is what make her beautiful not just from a physically stand point but beautiful from a enter stand point. I wish her the very best as she reign as Miss Universe, she has the right attitude and she will do well as Miss Universe.
