So, Does Boris Have a Problem with Overweight Black Women?

boris kodjoe, black women

by Lynnel Hampton-Bott, Your Black World

When it comes to the BBW, Boris Kodjoe just doesn’t buy it.  These women are too heavy and need to can any – and all – excuses about their unhealthy lifestyles. He drove the point home with a spate of tweets inspired by a nightmare he had about 300-lb women eating chicken wings while grinding up on him.

Could he have picked a less controversial or gentle way of urging his sisters to choose exercise over ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’?  Perhaps.  But judging from his tweets, subtlety and tact apparently are not Kodjoe’s strong points:

“#FatExcuses ‘Don’t have time to exercise’ If u have time 2 watch ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ u have time 2 do jumping jacks and crunches”

“#FatExcuses ‘Men like thick girls’ There’s a difference between a healthy and sexy goddess (easy Boris!) and an unhealthy obese one.”

Ouch.  With a national obesity epidemic, one that hits black women especially hard, one can’t deny that Kodjoe has a valid point. Still, for a man so fine, some sensitivity would go a long way.

yeah BORIS you could at least show a little more compassion. some sistahs weight are not caused by unhealthy eating. it could also be due to a medical problem.

I love black women but 9 times out of 10 if they're fat it's because they're lazy and that is not cute.

Fat and lazy don't always go together. Some of those "fat" black women are the hardest working women anyone could ever meet or care to meet. Some are lazy...what's with the stereotyping. I don't know any fat lazy people - my grandmother was a "fat black woman" who worked herself way more than dogs do to the very day she died at the age of 84. That stereotype is BS. Most are not fat because they are lazy - they're fat because they are. Besides, it's their fat, why would anyone else concern themselves with it? If they gave a darn they'd do something about it, maybe they are happy and don't give a crap what Boris Kudjoe thinks of them - which is way better than sitting around unnerving yourself over someone else's weight issues. One would think Boris has better things to do, since he's so "non-fat" and famous and rich himself.

Is this coming from the man with the bad built wife

I think we all should have a problem with fat Black women. It's unhealthy. Fat white women is not on my radar of cares.

My morbidly obese sister says her thyroid problem is the cause for her being overweight.

One time on a visit to her place she was cooking an omelet and asked me if I wanted some. The omelet she gave me would feed me for a week.

She says that they eat like that all the time.

Thats right Boris! It does'nt matter black white or green if you see yourself anywhere near 200lb stop gormandizing and do something drastic. Not even a man athlete should be weighing that!

Health is more then just skin deep and body fat. Human begins tend to focus on the surface rather than deal with the roots. If you want to live a healthy life, you may need to cut out things like certain medication and alcohol.

Even mental and emotional health can affect the body, stress for one is a killer of people of all sizes. But with the media focusing on the superficial we get blinded to the truth.

I am of 250 lbs regardless of how much you exercise and how healthy you get, you body will crave itself what it feels best. But we take to the operating table and crave ourselves a new one, which is also a health risk.

This is not about excuses, if all people were the same size, we would find something else point out that is unhealthy, and lets face it, from the time a person of color is born, science says we are doom, if not from what we eat but where we live.

This man is not fine, he is ugly and has a personality to match. HIs character is superficial and he thrives on those bases. A scar would cause him much pain for he has not inner beauty.

We should critical think through our comments but with people like this man finding some way to stay on the tongues of the people is the order of the day.

Besides who is say he more healthy than a woman of 300 lbs. Don't be fooled by the package.

I'm missing where he speicifed race. Doesn't BBW = Big Beautiful Woman?

As good looking as he is, he's just not sexy. Not to mention he can't act his way out of a paper bag.

I find this ironic. I have seen Boris with what I thought was an overweighted black woman. She was not grossly overweighted. But it was a surprised to me an other around me to see him with a woman like this. She was nice and pleasant. But she was on the hefty size by my judgement.

Ahma hold on to this one for a few years, when that "middle age weight gain" catches up with him, then send it to his agent and go "so who's fat now"?

If it wasn't for my father's distaste for so-called soul food and prepackaged foods my mother would have contributed to killing her family.

At the end of the day, my mother was woman enough to suck it up and learn how to cook health and nutritious food. But it took years for her to accept the fact that unhealthy eating habits was the reason her father, uncles, and other men in the family never saw their 65 birthday.

I hope one day we learn to eat better and take better care of ourselves.

Peace

kjtenki: I did nothing BUT cook healthy foods for my kids. Wasn't no microwave mama, didn't even own one - refused to let them indulge too heavily in sweets, processed foods, or even KoolAid. They weren't allowed to drink it, they had tea, water, an occasional sip of soda because I wasn't dealing with the sugar shock factor period. My sons grew up (grown now), started drinking, smoking, drugging, and eating shyte for meals, including tossing out the veggies ... so there goes that theory, right out the window.

I think obesity is based heavily on socio-economic status. Honestly, it's not a race issue...it goes hand in hand with poverty and the habits that impoverished families are often forced to keep. It just so happens that racism keeps poverty and race hand in hand. Black, Latino and poor white families are often the ones with the highest obesity rates and a lot of this has to do with the values that we put on food, the types of food products that we're able to afford, our limited education about healthful food and how to prepare it, lack of time or emotional energy required to prepare healthful meals, limited access to quality healthcare, etc. It's inequality that spreads obesity...

I am very disappointed to read Boris comments. I am a black woman who has struggled with her weight. I will not make excuses, however, why choose Twitter as a platform? By the way, you are a terrible actor.

How many thin women (who appear to be healthy) smoke and drink excessively, have unprotected sex with anyone who looks their way, eat crappy, and do illegal drugs all in the name of fun in main stream media? Thousands everyday, all day long! How many of those same thin women have eating disorders, such as bulimia, and work out excessively to stay thin? The majority of them. How many young girls and women are trying to immolate these same so-called "healthy thin" people? Millions. How many supposedly healthy and fit people drop dead unexpectedly everyday? Thousands. I'd understand if he had positive solutions to help obese black women lose weight, be healthier or even contributed his expertise (Ha!) to the cause but to make rude comments about a group is so insensitive and ignorant. Thin doesn't equal happiness; thin definitely doesn't equal healthy either. I'd rather be an healthy overweight HAPPY black woman w/a great personality and morals, then a skinny, fake, and unhappy whore! Not all thin women fit into this category but isn't it unfair to make this assumption, like he did to obese women. Think before you speak!

First of all, let me take a deep breathe. Like Obama, I like to know what I'm going to say before I say it. That having been said, Boris Kodjo is one of my least favorite actors. He's type cast as a pretty boy actor and doesn't know how to be anybody else. If he's a bad guy, he a pretty boy bad guy. If he's a good guy, he's a pretty boy good guy. Never have I ever seen him try to reach outside to be anyother character other then the typical pretty boy. Now to the main point of the story. As a big girl (BBBW) I am offended that this Specimen has to stoop to this level and tweet about women loosing weight when his acting skills is sub-par AT BEST! Not that one has to do with the other; but at least be a well accomplished actor then you can trying to tell me how to loose weight. That sounds really rich coming from a guy who's show didn't come back for a second season. Where are you now Boris accept for on twitter trying to be an aerobics instructor. That's original. Note to self BRA, you can't act well enough to be convincing; so can you tell me how to loose weight.

WOW. I wonder if Boris wished he had not tweeted that comment.

Hell I'm over weight because of pregnancy. A womans body and strength will never be the same after we have kids. it takes years for our bodies to recover. Some women are really lazy though. I always see a morbidly obese woman at the local popeyes,KFC..

I saw this article headline on "Your Black World" by Dr. Boyce Watkins. Why do we black women feel like we have to rush to justify or even comment on this stupid crap...every black man in the celebrity ring puts us down and does not come to our rescue when we are being attacked in the media. But when the world is dogging them then we are the first ones to jump in the ring to fight for them! I'm tired of being put down by these high profile clowns like I don't matter! I don't care if you are morbidly obese or 10 lbs overweight, you still deserve respect and it's time for the sisters to band together and give it to ourselves first then to each other. Let's stop being a party to people that do not celebrate us! Don't be so quick to jump on the bandwagon of haters! We all know that being overweight is not healthy but just because I am overweight, don't act silly! Only someone that feels like crap themselves will try to make you feel like crap too! I'm not letting any fool stand on my back to elevate themselves! I suggest you all do the same! Much love to all my sistas black, white, yellow, and brown and every shade in between!

An another alternative would be to engage a professional PPC company that can very well combine your PPC campaign with SEO tries to achieve a total marketing effort.
While you can do these things with chat rooms,
forums allow you to converse with more people, because you do not all have to be online at the same time.
I also didn't dig deep enough into it to find out everything about it.
